When to visit Vieil Aiglun?
Thanks to its relatively dry and, above all, very sunny climate, Vieil Aiglun is an ideal destination year-round. Specifically: the lavender fields bloom from mid-June to mid-July; the swimming pool is open from mid-May to early October; it is cold but very sunny between January and mid-March; the autumn colours are magnificent from mid-October to mid-December; the shoulder seasons (May, October & November) are ideal for hiking; and sun and heat lovers will find their paradise between mid-June and early September.
Is Vieil Aiglun isolated?
The peace and quiet and the panoramic mountain views give a feeling of seclusion. Yet, the cottages are located 4 km from the main road, 8 km from a hypermarket and 21 km from the motorway linking Gap to Aix-en-Provence.
Many natural sites, points of interest, and villages are easily accessible. Numerous shops are located within a 10-minute drive.
Do I need a car?
Yes, it's essential to enjoy the beauty of our surroundings and to do our shopping.
For those arriving by plane or TGV, it is easy and relatively economical to rent a car at the airport or TGV station.
It is also possible to rent a car in Digne-les-Bains (HERTZ agency 8 km from the cottages).
I'm coming in an electric car, where can I recharge it?
If you are arriving in an electric car, several charging options are available near Vieil Aiglun. Charging stations, including some fast chargers, are located approximately 10 minutes away by car.
Here are the nearest charging stations:
Allego - Carrefour Digne (Zi, Rte de Marseille, 04000 Digne-les-Bains ): Combo CCS up to 300 kW + Type 2 / 22 kW- IZIVIA FAST - McDonald's Digne-les-Bains (N85, 04000 Digne-les-Bains ): CCS + Type 2 combo, power up to 150 kW
- Lidl (1 Route de Marseille, 04000 Digne-les-Bains ): Type 2 22 kW + 1 CCS/CHAdeMO socket 50–60 kW depending on the station
There is also a charging station in the village of Aiglun, a 5-minute drive away:
- Eborn (1 Place de la Mairie, 04510 Aiglun ): public charging station, Type 2 socket, power up to 22 kW, accessible 24 hours a day.
What are the nearest airports and train stations?
Marseille airport is a 1 hour 30 minute drive away, and the Aix-en-Provence TGV station is 1 hour 15 minutes away. Nice airport is a possible alternative, but expect a 2 hour 30 minute drive through the mountains.
Do you have to go far to do your shopping? Are shops open on Sundays?
A CARREFOUR hypermarket (open on Sunday mornings), several bakeries and numerous shops are only a 12-minute drive away.
What are the main markets in Provence?
Forcalquier (the largest) on Monday mornings, Aiglun (small organic & local produce market) on Tuesday afternoons and the Digne-les-Bains market on Wednesday & Saturday mornings.
Are meals and breakfasts served in the guest rooms?
Yes. Breakfast is included in the price of your bed and breakfast stay.
For evening meals, we offer a set menu served 2 to 3 times a week depending on the season. If you would like to dine with us, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance.
In addition, a fully equipped shared kitchen is available to all our bed and breakfast guests, allowing you to prepare your own meals on site.
Finally, several restaurants are located about 15 minutes by car from Vieil Aiglun.
Are meals and breakfasts served in the cottages?
No, we do not serve meals in the cottages. Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, allowing you to cook local produce with pleasure. It is also possible to use a home caterer who provides meals that can be reheated in a microwave oven.
Most restaurants are located within a 15-minute drive of the cottages.
What kind of coffee machine is available?
Our cottages, as well as the shared kitchen in the guest rooms, are all equipped with an electric coffee maker with paper filters (provided) and a KRUPS Dolce Gusto espresso machine (pods not provided).
Should I bring my own sheets and towels?
No, they are provided and included in our rates and the beds are made.
What additional charges should be added to the prices?
The tourist tax (€0.88 per night per adult for bed and breakfasts, and €1.65 or €2.64 per night per adult for self-catering cottages) and the cleaning service (only for self-catering cottages) are extra if you prefer not to clean yourself. Cleaning is included in the bed and breakfast rate. Utilities are included in our rates.
Are pets allowed?
We love dogs & cats, but we have nevertheless made the choice not to accept them in the cottages and rooms.
When and to whom is the swimming pool accessible?
The swimming pool is accessible all year round. Unheated, its temperature varies with the seasons: around 6°C in the middle of winter — the ideal complement to the sauna — and up to 28°C in summer on the hottest days.
It is open to all residents of the 3 cottages and 4 guest rooms (as well as to ourselves).
The swimming pool is secured by a fence and access is via a gate equipped with a security lock.
Are children welcome?
Yes, absolutely. We simply ask that peace and quiet be respected, especially around the pool. The cottages and rooms are neither a monastery nor a playground... A cot and high chair are available in each cottage.
Is it possible to get some advice regarding preparation for the trip?
Yes, very gladly. We can advise you before or during your stay on activities, places not to miss, restaurants, hikes, ... During your stay, we can lend you hiking maps.
Are there air conditioning units in the cottages?
No. The thickness of the walls helps to keep the cottages and rooms relatively cool, even in summer. However, fans are available for your use.
What time can we arrive and what time must we leave on the day of departure?
Unless we hear from you, we expect you between 5pm and 7pm. If you wish to arrive earlier or later, please contact us a few days in advance.
For departure, we ask that you please leave the cottage by 10am / the room by 11am so that we can prepare it for the next tenants.
