With nearly 7,000 km of marked trails in the department, Vieil Aiglun is an ideal starting point for exploring the unspoiled landscapes of Haute-Provence and the Southern Alps, between mountains, forests, gorges, and perched villages.

The Verdon Gorges and Lake Sainte-Croix

 

Lake Sainte-Croix and the Verdon Gorge are less than an hour's drive from Vieil Aiglun. Discover one of France's most beautiful natural sites by exploring its impressive gorges, whether by kayak, pedal boat, or on foot. The numerous trails offer spectacular views of the cliffs and the turquoise waters of the Verdon River.

 

Lavenders

 

The old village of Aiglun is located in the heart of the lavender region. Many fields bloom in the surrounding area from late spring onwards, offering iconic Provençal landscapes and unforgettable fragrances. The famous Valensole plateau, renowned for its vast lavender fields, is accessible in just 45 minutes by car. Flowering typically reaches its peak between mid-June and mid-July.

 

The Forcalquier market

 

Every Monday morning, the Forcalquier market brings life to the narrow streets and squares of the historic center. Considered one of the largest and most authentic Provençal markets, it gathers artisans, local producers, and creators who come to present their wares: seasonal fruits and vegetables, cheeses, olive oils, spices, textiles, and crafts. A true immersion in the Provençal way of life.

 

The citadel of Sisteron

 

Dominating the Durance Valley, the citadel of Sisteron is one of the iconic monuments of Haute-Provence. Built on an impressive rocky spur, it offers a remarkable example of military architecture through the centuries. A visit allows you to discover its history, its ramparts, and its exhibition spaces, while enjoying exceptional views of the town and the surrounding landscapes.

 

Alexandra David-Néel House

 

Alexandra David-Néel was an explorer with a curiosity
Insatiable, in search of adventure, spirituality, and encounters with distant cultures. The first Western woman to enter Lhasa, Tibet, she made history. In Digne-les-Bains, visit her house, now a museum dedicated to her work and life.

 

The thermal baths

 

The Digne Thermal Spa was renovated in 2022 and offers an indoor and outdoor thermal pool, as well as a jacuzzi, hammam, sauna, and solarium. Massages, facials, and body treatments are available for booking.

 

Art collection in nature

 

The Gassendi Museum invites you to discover contemporary art while walking through the Haute-Provence Geopark. Along the trails, artworks in the heart of nature, including Andy Goldsworthy's Art Refuges, offer a unique experience.
